Job Description: Reliability Coordinator

Position Summary
The Maintenance Coordinator at Smurfit Westrock manages the efficient and effective use of internal technical personnel, 3rd party vendors, and machine downtime to maximize production equipment availability. Operating out of our Sioux City facility, this role serves as the vital link between manufacturing operations and the maintenance department. You will be responsible for the execution, planning, scheduling, and reporting of preventative maintenance (PM) and repair work orders using JDE (JD Edwards) system. A primary focus is ensuring the facility operates safely, reliably, and within budget parameters.
Core Responsibilities
CMMS Data & Work Order Management (JD Edwards)
- Originate, track, and manage all preventative maintenance tasks, predictive maintenance strategies, Precision maintenance strategies, and corrective repairs within the JDE platform.
- Screen and approve incoming work orders from the operating departments to verify coding/informational accuracy and ensure machinery symptoms are thoroughly described.
- Maintain the planned Work Order backlog according to corporate and facility guidelines, ensuring all repair work orders are assigned to one (1) resource and systematically moving orders to the "ready-to-schedule" phase.
- PR/PO issuing for all non-inventoried parts, all site issued projects, all 3rd party vendor services, all OEM services.
Planning & Production Scheduling
- Act as the primary liaison between maintenance technicians and production teams to negotiate and integrate repair windows with minimal disruption to manufacturing targets, ensuring Production Planning is kept apprised of all scheduled down time.
- Build daily and weekly work lists utilizing the JDE backlog to keep technicians efficiently deployed.
- Plan and schedule OEM/Vendor Projects/PMs to mitigate operational down periods.
- Coordinate scheduled plant downtime events, organizing both internal teams and third-party vendors for Projects, Rebuilds, Improvements, Preventative Maintenance.
Budgeting
- Manage and track the monthly maintenance budget, actively identifying, explaining, and justifying any cost deviations.
- Identify parts required for upcoming maintenance efforts and budget proactively for the acquisition of these components.
Safety, Compliance & Culture
- Model and promote a safe work environment by actively participating in OSHA-aligned safety reviews, training, and audits under plant management guidance.
- Partner with Maintenance Technicians to review work requests, ensuring appropriate safety controls, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols, and PPE are established before work begins.
- Spend collaborative time on the production floor to build hands-on knowledge of packaging machinery, equipment functions, and process limitations.
Key Competencies
- Systems Fluency: Mastery of JD Edwards (JDE) EnterpriseOne software
- Technical Understanding: Familiarity with corrugated production lines, pneumatic systems, electrical components, hydraulics, and automated plant equipment.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to remain composed and prioritize effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced production environments.
- Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with Maintenance Technicians, Storeroom Coordinator, Maintenance Coordinator, Facility/Department Leadership, and Outside Vendors.
